Wrinkle Treatment - Draper Plastic Surgery Asheville
Before and After

Botox is used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, and to improve your overall appearance.

Doctors have been using Botox for years to successfully treat wrinkles and facial creases. Botox Cosmetic Injections are purified protein toxin produced by the clostridium bacteria. Although Botox Cosmetic Injections are a toxin, there have been no serious side effects. This is because it is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout the body.

Botox works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can’t contract – making wrinkles relax and soften. The most common areas for the use of Botox Cosmetic Injections are the frown lines between the eyebrows, the horizontal forehead lines, and the crow’s feet. On occasion, some other areas may be treated as well.

Who should consider botox?

Those who are the best candidates for Botox are both men and women who are in good health, who have realistic expectations for what the treatment can provide – and who would like to do something about their wrinkles but don’t want to undergo a more invasive procedure or any surgical options. In terms of age, it’s not really age that determines when Botox might be right for you, but rather the severity of your wrinkles and facial lines– with statistics showing that injectables are rising in popularity for patients of all ages, including those in their early 30s. If your lines and wrinkles are beginning to bother you, talk to Dr. Draper and discuss how this non-invasive treatment can help.

What a consultation entails

Prior to your Botox treatment, a consultation will enable us to thoroughly evaluate your skin and decide whether Botox is the right option for your particular lines and wrinkles. In addition, your consultation is the time for you to ask any questions that you may have about the procedure, as well discuss your desired results and expectations.

What to expect during Treatment

A small amount of Botox can be placed into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle relaxes, the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear. When Botox is injected there is an initial minor sting for a few seconds. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort.

The effects of Botox Injections usually last three to five months, at which time another injection is required. After several treatments, the effects of Botox Cosmetic Injections may begin to last longer, sometimes up to six to eight months.
